What is FASFA?

Who we are

Formed in 2000, the Frozen At Sea Fillet Association (FASFA) is a trade organisation representing international fishing companies, fishing vessels, and distributors of Frozen At Sea (FAS) filleted cod and haddock, sustainably sourced from Norway, Iceland, Faroe Islands, Greenland, and the UK.

From the catching, filleting, and freezing process at sea to the distribution of FAS fillets to fish and chip shops throughout the UK, FASFA members work together to ensure that every catch is as fresh, sustainable, and delicious as the next. It is our aim to ensure that UK consumers can enjoy their iconic fish and chips, served to the highest quality, all year round.

Our organisation comprises of leading industry members both in the UK and overseas.

What we do

FASFA works with industry partners, stakeholders and the media to improve the understanding of FAS fish within key consumer and trade markets by promoting the key environmental, quality and health benefits of choosing FAS fillets.

Through the responsible management of fishing waters, our member organisations strictly adhere to scientifically proven criteria for sustainability, endeavouring to preserve the future of fishing stocks in the North Atlantic and Barents Sea, to ensure that future generations will continue to enjoy fish and chips.

Why we do it

98% of UK fish and chip shops now use FAS cod and haddock fillets, although many consumers are still unaware of where the fish in their fish and chips comes from. It is our duty to, not only protect our oceans, but protect the reputation of our industry and to raise awareness of the key issues around responsible sourcing and sustainable fishing.

FAS fillets provide a solution to the demand for high quality products all year round, and plays a vital part in reducing overfishing through the reduction of food waste and the use of cutting edge technology.
