FASFA Member Launches New Campaign Promoting Sustainability – With a Special Offer for Fish & Chip Shop Customers

“With a world-focus on sustainability and the questions of what we can all do more to protect the environment, fish and chip shops have a vital role to play in educating consumers about the issues around responsible sourcing.”

Many shops around the UK already demonstrate their commitment to this role seriously, not least by ensuring that the cod and haddock they’re serving their customers is MSC certified and sustainably sourced.

Over the last 20 years, FASFA has worked closely with our members, stakeholders and shops to promote the premium quality, sustainability and year-round availability of FAS fillets sourced in the North Atlantic, providing reassurance to fish and chip shop owners and their customers.

A new joint partnership initiative launched by FASFA member, the Ramoen FAS vessel and the Norwegian Seafood Council will spread the word far and wide that quality matters when it comes to sustainable seafood, letting fish and chip shop fans know that they can always enjoy a delicious portion of fish and chips with a clear conscience when they choose cod or haddock that is sustainably sourced.

This campaign is fantastic news for consumers, as selected fish and chip shops using MSC certified frozen-at-sea Norwegian cod and haddock from the Ramoen will unite to offer customers spending over £10 on fish and chips a branded woolly beanie hat and water bottle.

Be quick though – these gifts are only available while stocks last. You can find your closest participating fish and chip shop below:

-Friday 13th March – free woolly beanie hats

As the representative body for the frozen at sea sector, we would urge fish and chip shops who may not have considered FAS fillets to find out more about the benefits in terms of robust supply chains, sustainability, and as selling point to customers. Many of the UK’s best fish and chip shops only use FAS fillets due to their premium quality – which is caught and fully frozen within hours, locking in the nutrients and flavour.

Customers benefit from delicious, flaky white fish of the highest quality and a growing number of fish and chip shop fans are choosing to only purchase from fish and chip shops that serve sustainable options. It’s important to provide customers with a diverse menu offering plenty of sustainable seafood options so they can continue to enjoy the nation’s favourite dish with a clear conscience.
