Faroe Islands Sustainable Fisheries seminar and reception
On the 9th of September 2025 the magnificent Fishmongers’ Hall in London hosted the first seafood event for the Faroe Islands.
Kate Sanderson, Head of the Representation of the Faroe Islands to the UK welcomed the guests and opened up the event. Andrew Wallace, Director of Fish and Fisheries gave an brief history of the Hall and welcomed the 60+ guests to London.
The sessions were chaired by John Goodlad, a well known Fisheries Expert and Author.
Keynote speaker was Johan Christiansen, Minister of Fisheries in the Faroe Islands, who discussed Managing Faroese fisheries sustainably.
Followed by Marita Rasmussen, Director at the Faroe Marine Research Institute and Durita i Grotinum, MD at the Faroe Islands Sustainable Fisheries, who presented a very informative session on assessing sustainability in Fariese Fisheries.
FASFA member Jogvan Hansen, JFK/Gadus and Chair of the Association of Faroese Fish Producers talked about promoting Faroese seafood quality and innovation along with Stefan i Skorini, Director of the Faroese Fishing vessel Association.
Concluding the presentations were Janet Skarosa, Senior Adviser for the Ministry of Fisheries and Infrastructure and Colin Faulkner, Deputy Director, External Fisheries Negotiations & Trade Policy at DEFRA.
We were treated to a wonderful seafood reception, where renowned Faroese Chef Gutti Winther prepared a delicious range of dishes, served with a selection of Faroese beers.
